Alright, my first project is a pretty simple chibi Horo model that I made to test out Pepakura. I've only folded the head and hair so far, so I wouldn't call it completed, but I've uploaded the .PDO for you to test out anyway.

Download .PDO (713.2 KB)

I would very much appreciate it to get feedback on what to change, as well as a photo of the finished model if possible. Thanks!

As for requests, you can post them here or mail them to me at dontsudontsu@gmail.com
I'll admit it right away that my experience with anime 3D models so far have been largely focused on anime girls, so I'm not sure if I could make you a large bodybuilder-type manly character, but as long as you attach pictures of the character you want to request, I'll give it a shot. I can do both chibi and realistic characters, though the chibi ones are obviously easier and takes a lot less time to make papercraft-able in Pepakura.

I have had a look at the PDO, looks like a good build. I may not have time to make it in the near future. But since the link to your blog was posted in 4chan I am sure many people will get back to you.

As soon as I get more ink I'm going to build this. It's adorable. :) Since you're taking requests might I be able to request a Nephlyte from Sailor Moon? Or a non-chibi version of Hobo Phoenix?

I will have to set up a to-do-list for the requests, and I obviously can't guarantee I will make every single one of them but one thing is for sure, the more reference pictures (different angles, etc.) will make it A LOT easier for me to make it.

Reference pictures means EVERYTHING when it comes getting model as good as possible~

Hi excellent model and great work... the body, arms, and everything is excellent and easy to work, but the big mess is the hair, why don't you try to make it in 3 or 4 parts??? the front!!! the tails of the hair... the base and the Ears (this one could be attach like the amrs...)because later when you try to connect every part is more easy... and the model is simple...

But all you could do is make a test model and try it before you release it...

If you like to see other work form friends (not me... i don't still don't know anything about design in 3D) you are invited to visite a great site of a friends, http://www.modelosdepapel.com.ar Cheers and thx for your time and work.

I'm actually in the process of building the model, I did the head already and her tail.

The design of the model and hair is fine so far, the only critique I have is that you need to resize the tabs for the hair (you can do tabs independently) because some of them are bigger than the parts they connect to -- like the "spikes" on the front ends. The back piece for the hair is sort of odd, and was a bit tricky because I didn't attach her face first.

But so far so good - I think that the overall design and unfold is good so far. Once I finish up more of her I'll let you know what's up.

Thanks, the hair was the hardest part to get right in Pepakura, since it just outright refused to be in less than a bajillion pieces.

Pepakura likes making things into a lot of pieces, anything I can do to keep things in bigger pieces?

I should start on that Nyoro~n model ASAP, getting a lot of requests now..
I just hope you'll all remember that I'm just one guy, and doing these models takes a bit of time.

Thanks~

the model looks great =)

may I also request a model of Sora from Kingdom Hearts?

I believe there are ripped 3D models of the character already so it not a start from scratch project..the hard part is to reduce the polygons and pose the model..I say it's hard only because I know nothing about 3D modeling..so I hope you could help..thanks!

Well, Pepakura's unfolding process tends to choose the worst possible way to unfold anything, and eyeballing it works up to a point -- you will almost always need a test build to determine where parts should be joined or not (you won't know until you build it).

You could try creating the cut lines BEFORE you click "unfold". If you break it up that way into smaller chunks, the unfold process should be able to make more useful divisions, although you will still need to edit what it does. I wouldn't trust it to unfold a cube personally.

Anyway, like I said, the hair is fine, you did a great job with it. When I said the piece was tricky, I meant putting her face on was tricky because the hair was in the way -- but it's paper, it can bend. I didn't attach the face first because I needed to have a better grip on the hair part.

hey, would you be up for doing some lucky star papercraft?
I konata and kagami would be awesome, especially in your style.

Hi there, seems like already 2 years passed since this was published, but I just wanted to thank you for this piece. Cute chibi horo :3 was my first papercraft work, though I had quite some experience with Origami and Kirigami. I needed about 6 hours :S Quite some time. I don't know how long normal papercrafts take, but the most difficult origami work I made did "only" take 8 hrs (Ancient Dragon)...

The three cords attached to her dress are seperate even though you have to combine them anyway. The same applies for the bag in which horo carries the wheatcorns. The bag is divided into two parts, which you have to combine anyway.

But anyway :) it's a now a cute figure standing beside my PC.
